A boat in the sea

A boat in the sea. 17 hours of travel wobbling on the waves. No security, fear and even more hope. This is the story of a mother who has got three children arriving at the medical centre of Mindoro with her little children. Her son J. was seriously ill with leukemia. This mother has us understand what being a mother means: to give everything for the sake of your child. She has arrived looking for a help and our doctor said that J. needed an emergency surgery. The mother had to go to Manila, the capital city. She did not think even for a moment, she gave us her children and left. No security, no reference point, not aware of what she had to face. She was at sea with her son in the arms for the last time. A typical story in the Philippines where people die for less sometime. The mother came back from Manila with her child’s body to thank us for having checked him out, to thank us for having taken care of her children and for having been present when nobody was. This mother has made us understand what we have to do in Mindoro: to give everything for the sake of these people as she did for her son.
