From mice to family

There are many things that scare us: death, illness, helplessness, losing someone…In Loikaw, Myanmar, women and girls live in fear. Fear of armed conflict, fear of being raped, beaten, killed. Fear of tribal wars, fear that in life there is nothing else for them but just silence and tears. Many girls are orphaned or abandoned in the forests or in front of churches if they are lucky. G. is the sixth of ten children and has been entrusted to the parish priest of Thit Kyte, her village. Last year the village was damaged by an invasion of mice that ate their food, occupied their homes, bit them, and terrified them. The parish priest brought G. to the Via Pacis shelter house. She was injured, scared and back from a situation of abandonment. In this house G. has received treatment and has started studying. The nuns gave her affection, food, hope of not being afraid anymore. G. is fine now and, if someone helps her, she can stay in the shelter house where she has finally found a family.
